A full system motorcycle exhaust connects to the head of the engine unlike slip-on models that only connect to the opening where your stock muffler is found. Replacing a stock OEM exhaust is best done with a full system since it replaces all the restrictive parts of a stock exhaust system that is designed with regulations and limitations regarding sound and decibel levels.
If you're the type of biker who likes to run his machine at full throttle than a full system exhaust is your best bet. The high end performance of a full system aftermarket exhaust is preferred by drag racers, cruiser motorcycles and touring bikes since a full system ensures optimum speed, power and control on open roads and highways. Slip-on exhausts are usually reserved for street racing sport bikes that don’t need a complete system overhaul.
Full system motorcycle exhausts come in a wide variety of commercial-grade metals and materials including stainless steel, aluminum, black aluminum, carbon fiber and titanium. The primary reason for replacing a stock OEM exhaust system is to reduce the overall weight of the bike and increase horsepower. It is estimated that swapping out a cruiser motorcycle exhaust and replacing with an aftermarket full system can lessen the bike's weight by up to 15lbs.
Another reason to replace the stock system is to increase the sound of your bike. Stock systems have restrictions and emission regulations to comply with and many motorcycle owners prefer a deeper sound and louder exhaust than what an OEM system offers. Different states have different standards for motorcycle decibel levels so know the laws before you make changes that could lead to a fine or ticket.
