Transworld MX gives us a 9.5
August 18, 2009
TransWorld MX gave our RT-99 a test drive.
They gave us 9.5 out of 10 one if the highest rated exhaust systems they have ever tested.
// WHAT IT IS: The Jardine RT99 system is Jardine's latest offer for today's
advanced four-strokes. The system is made out of a stainless steel
header and mid pipe mated up with an aluminum muffler. Perhaps one
of the most noticeable features of the RT99, however, is the resonance
chamber on the header pipe. This chamber is designed to cut sound
down to 99 decibels while also adding meaty low-end grunt. All told,
this complete exhaust system is made with the amateur racer and casual
rider in mind who wants a quieter system with great performance.
// HITS: After bolting the system up to our test bike, the first thing we
noticed was the throaty yet subdued exhaust note that resonated from
the aluminum muffler. Once out on the track, the power benefits of the
system shone through. Just like Jardine claims, the RT99 adds more
power to the low end, in the form of a harder initial hit, and continues
up throughout the powerband. In stock trim, the '09 KX450F power isn't
overly aggressive. With the RT99 installed, the power of the big KXF is
woken up, allowing the bike to be ridden more aggressively. But while
the system does add power, it doesn't do it in an unmanageable manner,
which is something we look for in exhaust systems for the powerful
450cc four-strokes. Because at the end of the day?and in the waning
laps of a moto?who really wants a bike that you can't hold on to?
// MISSES: It's difficult to find a fault in this setup. But the weight of
the stainless steel and aluminum is a little much, and isn't significantly
lower than stock.
// THE VERDICT: For the money, the Jardine RT99 is an excellent
choice for anyone looking for additional power gains on his or her
bike. It adds power and gives the bike an authoritative grunt that
commands attention. Also, even though the entire system is a little
on the heavy side, it makes up for it in durability and price.
